InterGenerate Conference: Firehose or Summer Camp?
Posted by Liz Perraud at
“Drinking from the fire hose” doesn’t begin to describe the experience I had at InterGenerate June 25-27 at Lipscomb University in Nashville. InterGenerate 2017 was an inaugural conference gathering 150 academics, practitioners, and others excited about the impact of intergenerational relationships on today’s church and wider community. It was more like summer camp where I couldn’t wait to get up each morning, had trouble falling asleep each night though fully exhausted, and then was sad to leave. But I left with all these new, wonderful friends and inspired to carry on! Jam-packed, overflow days of workshops, panel discussions, keynote addresses,...

A Bone to Pick

By Betsy Dishman, Training Coordinator, GenOn Ministries Bones...a term of endearment to churches with LOGOS ministries, but admittedly insider language. What does an excellent design for ministry with children and youth have to do with bones? Historically, (after over 50 years of refining LOGOS ministry you can use that word) the bones gave churches a structure for their programs; flexible, but never to be broken. Currently, GenOn Ministries recognizes that bones come in all shapes and sizes, and are unique to each individual. Likewise, LOGOS Bones, while still the structure, look different from church to church, small to large, urban...

Faith formation at home
Posted by Liz Perraud at
By Laura Sambito, Highlands United Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, Fl How can I help them always remember that God loves them? I'm sure every parent has asked this question at least a time or two. As a mom of two young boys and church educator to about 50 more young people, I have spent many hours contemplating this question. So, when our LOGOS schedule allowed for adding a designated "Worship Skills" time, I wanted it to be focused on more than just music, which has been our norm. In the fall, our children learned about the liturgical calendar, parts of worship,...

If Wednesday is the new Sunday then what does that mean for Christian education?
Posted by Liz Perraud at
There was a day when schools and communities guarded Wednesday night as “church night.” Rarely were school sports practices or evening events scheduled. And then there wasn’t that day. Maybe the practice was more of a Bible Belt thing—most common in the south and midwest states. Growing up in the DC area I have no memory of Wednesday night reserved for religious reasons and it certainly wasn’t the case for my children. We all know about the gradual erosion of Sunday morning as “sacred” time. About 20 years ago, our soccer club ruled that no game would start prior to...
