Visiting Churches Encourages Conversations

Posted by Liz Perraud at

By Liz Perraud, Executive Director, GenOn Ministries I spent a great deal of 2016 on the road visiting LOGOS churches. All this travel allowed me to see and experience LOGOS in action--in churches and at both youth summits--to worship with churches, and to enjoy relationship building over breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. It was a blessing to have so many in-person conversations with pastors, educators, LOGOS directors, and lots of church volunteers. The best conversations were on long walks and airport drives. And maybe even over an adult beverage. This is what I learned about the churches I visited: They love...

Seeking Excellent Curriculum?

What is excellent Bible study curriculum?  The student is engaged and grows as an intelligent, biblically-informed disciple and The teacher has a flexible, creative, theologically-sound, age appropriate resource.   How do you identify that curriculum?  Does the curriculum offer... >ways to develop thinking skills so that students are encouraged to ask questions, seek answers, and grow in their understandings >teaching methods and activities for all ways of learning >concise, in-depth Bible background >spiritual practices woven in for both teachers and students >easy to follow lesson plans and helpful teaching tips >a home connection component >an approach that builds relationships between peers and between generations >theology that is consistent with the great themes of...

Salad Days

My favorite thing to do at LOGOS is to serve salad. Every week, no matter what the Family Time theme, we serve salad. Well, not on PJ Night when dinner is breakfast. Everyone agrees that salad doesn't go well with waffles and sausage and syrup.  Instead of putting a bowl of salad on every table to be served family style like the rest of dinner, we make up a huge bowl of tossed salad--mixed greens (those big pre-washed bags), chopped zucchini and tomatoes, croutons and Italian dressing. Nothing fancy. Except for Wacky Wednesday when we threw in some leftover diced...

Seeking Volunteers?

Lots of emails are coming in seeking help in staffing for LOGOS this fall. Are you having trouble getting people to “step up to the plate” to serve in any ministry of the church? Let’s get something really clear, they rarely do just “step up”! So we need to find another way to engage people in ministry. Lots of adults--representing many generations. Our goal is not just to staff programs, but to build lots of healthy Christ-centered relationships in our faith community. God didn’t wait for people to come (or even make general pulpit announcements). God called people to come. By...

Congratulations!

I ate dinner with a family from my church a couple of weeks ago. They invited me for a meal in their home to thank me for something that I should have been thanking them for. You can read about that something here.  It was a wonderful evening of food and fellowship. The meal was a fabulous array of dishes from their culture (Pakistan) prepared with me in mind (not too spicy). There's something so very personal about not just a meal together but a meal in someone’s home. I loved it.  And I was reminded of something by the...
