If Wednesday is the new Sunday then what does that mean for Christian education?

Posted by Liz Perraud at

There was a day when schools and communities guarded Wednesday night as “church night.” Rarely were school sports practices or evening events scheduled. And then there wasn’t that day. Maybe the practice was more of a Bible Belt thing—most common in the south and midwest states. Growing up in the DC area I have no memory of Wednesday night reserved for religious reasons and it certainly wasn’t the case for my children. We all know about the gradual erosion of Sunday morning as “sacred” time. About 20 years ago, our soccer club ruled that no game would start prior to...

“We started LOGOS with a ‘soft launch’—only doing two of the elements (Family Time and Bible Study) until we have more buy-in. We have very few children in our small church, but we want to build relationships between the children and the adults.  We had 50 people come to the first night…seven of which were children. They arrived early, were wonderful guests, seemed to enjoy their chicken patties, and engaged with all at their tables. Our creative Dinner Dean had each table play a car chase game with matchbox cars and elbows only. There are our guests in the picture with...

The Year without VBS

I was serving on the Christian Education Committee and we wrestled with what to do about VBS for children’s ministry. I think it was less about the construction project (we could have worked around it) and more about the burned-out director and a little late in the year to find a new one. Should we cancel VBS this year? It certainly was an option but the LOGOS Leadership Team decided to take...
