Planned and Purposeful for Intergenerational Bible Study

Liz PerraudExecutive DirectorGenOn Ministries     Part 2 of a 4 Part Series: GenOn Ministries defines intergenerational ministry as nurturing Christ-centered community by bringing together two or more generations in planned and purposeful settings, where all are mutually invested. Intergenerational ministry is more than faith formation curriculum. It is about infusing the whole church with an ethos—the characteristic spirit of the community guided by its beliefs or ideas. Seminary Corner: Studying with All Generations

Andre Jordan "AJ" WallaceSecond Year StudentPrinceton Seminary Some of the most generative experiences of God revealing Godself to me has occurred in the context of studying and meditating on the text in community. But if I am honest, these occasions of engaging the word have never been with members from every age demographic present in my church communities.  I think much of church liturgy has some element of exclusion baked into it, and we have grown accustomed to the cycles of siloed Bible studies. When it comes to studying the word, we have normalized not having regular rhythms of intergenerational engagement.   Andre Jordan “AJ” Wallace Second-Year Student Princeton Seminary AJ, right, in an intergenerational Sunday morning ministry during his internship.           I had the joy of working at a church for the first time this summer. I held very little to no expectations about how the summer would unfold. While I can say numerous things about the wonderful experience I had as a seminary intern, I want to share what I believe was one of the greatest lessons I learned this summer – the power of presence. More specifically, the power of people showing up in...

Robin and I first met at the 2019 InterGenerate Conference in Nashville, Tennessee when she was back in the States visiting family. She grew up in North Carolina and in 2017 she and her “kiwi” husband, Paul, moved to his hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand. Recently, Robin shared with me about her experiences with a LOGOS ministry during her college years.   Liz: Can you describe your introduction to a LOGOS ministry? Robin: I was...
