Taking Attendance
Posted by Liz Perraud at
Often the simplest things are the most important things--particularly when it comes to growing relationships with young people. May we never stop listening or seeing them. Enjoy this piece written by my dear friend Kim Flyr, a counselor and former school counselor and teacher. Seeing the Child in the Student On the first day of kindergarten, there is no lack of hope and joy walking in the front door of our schools. As a career elementary teacher and then counselor in our public schools, I have spent many first days ostensibly “helping out” in Kindergarten, but I was really there to...
Parents Corner: Helping Your Child Develop Leadership Skills
Posted by Liz Perraud at
By Shirley Carlson, La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, California "Today's children are tomorrow's leaders, especially if those children have parents who are leaders." One could also say today's leaders are often the result of a childhood where they had the opportunity to learn leadership skills. To learn more ways to help your child learn these skills, check out this article. Helping your child build up his confidence is important. GenOn Exists to Serve You
Posted by Liz Perraud at
Equipping Christian communities for discipleship through intergenerational relationships is the mission of GenOn Ministries. We exist as an organization to provide church leaders what you need to grow disciples. We love being in relationship so that we can do ministry together. What happens at our training? “Aha!” lightbulbs go off, concepts are presented, and ideas are shared about the “why,” the “what,” the “who” and the “how” of excellent ministry. What do you do with our resources? You use them as tools to implement great intergenerational ministry. Do you have ideas for new training topics or new resources that could...
Parents Corner: Partnering with Young People
Posted by Liz Perraud at
By Shirley Carlson What does it mean to "partner" with children and youth? Do we treat them as equal partners in our churches and at home? Do we want to? How does God answer that question? Jesus said, "Let the children come unto me." There are other references to partnering with youth in the Bible as well. "Truly I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3-4). God intends for us to learn from each other....
