Butt deliver vs from evyll
Posted by Liz Perraud at
Bible study for the middle schoolers at LOGOS was on The Lord's Prayer. We began by reading it together as written in 1525—"Lett thy kyngdo come" and "Butt deliver vs from evyll." Yes, Butt, with a capital "B" even. You can imagine the (normal!) reaction. And then we read a more recent version from Matthew and from Luke and compared the two Gospels. Luke wrote with fewer words summarizing the main points, the youth observed. We looked at who wrote—or spoke—the prayer (Jesus) and who requested it (the disciples). Teach us to pray, they asked. What are we praying for...
Why InterGenerate?
Posted by Liz Perraud at
One of my first experiences in church was singing in the choir. I was about nine years old, not much of a singer but I liked to sing and I loved church. It wasn’t a children’s choir but just the choir, in the small church where I attended Sunday school. I wasn’t brave enough to invite myself so someone must have asked me to participate. I remember that I felt important and I felt equal to the adults—with my robe and my music notebook, just like their robes and music notebooks. My sons were raised in a LOGOS ministry in...
Not Just a Trip to Estes Park
Posted by Liz Perraud at
By Robin Menck, Faith Presbyterian Church, La Vista, NE In July 1998, one shy, nervous 8th grader got in a 15-passenger van full of "church people" she didn't really know and hit the road to Estes Park, Colorado for the LOGOS Conference. And thanks to the many people pouring into her and encouraging her to come out of her shell and to follow God's leading, that quiet 8th grader is now working at a church and writing this article. The transition from "youth" to "young adult" to "adult" is never easy but it is also never done alone. Sometimes...
The Force Was With Us
Posted by Liz Perraud at
We invited the force to be with us at LOGOS at Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Police Force. The force was with us for a shared meal which always means more than eating. Over chicken nuggets and orange slices each LOGOS table hosted a police officer. The conversations were lively and as I circulated through the room serving salad I saw the officers not only as guests but also as "all in." They helped make sure the children had enough food and they delighted in their questions. They played the after-dinner game of Community Drawing where each table drew a...
Introducing GenOn’s New Database Administrator
Posted by Liz Perraud at
Joining the GenOn staff, Amanda Nevin will be serving as Database Administrator. Amanda has served the church for over twenty years both as an ordained minister and as a volunteer. She has served in the areas of youth, children, family ministries, and worship, and has worked with LOGOS in both of her former congregations (including beginning the first ever mid-week program called SEEkers for children K-5th grade in her last call). She has served her congregations through curriculum development, writing, preaching, contemporary worship, teaching, pastoral care and through membership and membership retention. After her mother became ill, Amanda felt called...
