Intinction vs Tiny Cups in Trays
Posted by Liz Perraud at
If I had felt it appropriate enough and if I had been brave enough, I would have pulled out my phone this morning in worship to take pictures during communion. Though I like the motion and theology of sharing the bread and the wine by passing trays down the pew, there’s something more spiritual and relational to me about going forward to receive the bread and drink from someone holding it in their hand and to look into the eyes of that server. That’s the way we took communion this morning—by intinction—“the action of dipping the bread in the wine at a...

Finding Ministry Volunteers: No Beating around the Burning Bush
Posted by Liz Perraud at
It’s that time again! The church program year is starting up and you’re looking for volunteer staffing for…well, what seems like everything. If you’ve ever had to ask anyone for money (to borrow or to donate), you know it’s a similar feeling. You’re uncomfortable, you lack confidence, you put it off as long as you can, and worst of all—you fear rejection. And it’s usually a founded fear! There is rejection! I know the feeling. And I love it. I love praying about and discerning with others who God may be calling to a particular ministry or role, having the...
Tribute to Joe
Posted by Liz Perraud at
Joe sat in front of me in church for nearly 30 years. Literally, right in front of me. My husband and I landed in that spot because with one, then two, then three sons in the pews with us, we wanted to be close enough to the door for a variety of reasons. And then we never left that spot, even as the boys grew up and moved out and it was just the two of us. I tried several times to change seats to get a better view of everything but my husband always refused saying that if we...

Seeking great preschool curriculum?
Posted by Liz Perraud at
Curriculum writer Barbara Wilson's understanding of preschool age children is evident throughout the new Preschool LOGOS. She gets that they need to move, that they need repetition, that they need nurturing, that they need flexibility, that "wondering" questions are important, and that they are able to learn about God and God's creation. Each of the 25 lessons provides clear objectives, simple projects, an activity sheet, a music component, prayers, and a variety of ways to explore each Bible story. There's a good balance between Old and New Testament topics. Lessons also include an "Exploring at Home" sheet to give parents and grandparents...
Youth Summits give to DeHaven Grant
Posted by Liz Perraud at
By Kelly Kaufman Each summer high school youth, young adults, and adult leaders gather together for a week to grow in their faith, in their commitment to Christ, and in community with each other. GenOn Youth Summit West is held in Estes Park, Colorado and GenOn Youth Summit East is held in Wheeling, West Virginia. Participants spend the week experiencing all four parts of LOGOS every day along with dedicated time for mission in the surrounding community. Each year the participants dedicate their Friday worship offering to support a variety of local or national organizations. This year they collectively...
