God's World in Community: Advent Sample
One complete session of GenOn's God's World in Community: Advent. Introduction is not included in the sample. See pictures (left) of the introduction.
The word “Advent” springs from the Latin word adventus (“coming”) – looking back to Christ’s first coming as well as forward to his second coming. Through God’s World in Community: Advent, participants of all ages use visual arts to explore sessions titled
- Anticipate (Luke 21:29-33)
- Prepare (Luke 3:4-6)
- Expect (Luke 3:15-16)
- Welcome (Luke 1:39-41)
- Celebrate (Luke 2:6-11)
- Proclaim (Luke 2:45-48)
- Shine (John 1:1-5)
This flexible, simple resource for intergenerational gatherings is based on the Revised Common Lectionary readings for Year C and includes scripture passages from the four Sundays of Advent, Christmas Eve, and the two Sundays of Christmas. Each of the seven sessions features a scripture reading, options for visual art creations, wonder together prompts for conversation, and a prayer.
For use in small or large groups in person, online or at home, for all ages.
Prices include permission for
- churches to distribute (print or e-mail) to all households in that church
- camps to distribute to their camp families
- individuals for use in their home or sharing with their small group, "bubble," or extended family (use the "for churches" option)
