All God's Children: The Church Family Gathers for Lent (Psalms for Lent)

All God's Children: The Church Family Gathers for Lent is designed to gather generations to learn and grow together, bridging the gaps in our church experience.  Events are planned for a minimum of two hours, and move in a relaxed and unhurried pace, where the emphasis is on being together in community. Gatherings includes four activities: Eating Together (with menu, table decorations and prayer), Playing Together (with crafts, games, and other fun activities), Studying God's Word Together (with Scripture, wondering questions, and a reflective art activity) and Praying Together (with litany, music, sharing, and prayer).

Today, during Lent, many churches reflect on our lives and our relationship with God, studying the life, teachings and miracles of Jesus. The five sessions in this resource can be used during the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth weeks of Lent. Or selected sessions can be used at particular times during Lent.

For Psalms for Lent, each session will focus on one psalm. The psalms are songs that would have been accompanied by some type of instruments. They are also songs that Jesus would have known.

Sessions:

  1. Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16 “You are my refuge”
  2. Psalm 27 “You are my fortress”
  3. Psalm 63:1-8 “My satisfaction is in God”
  4. Psalm 32 “You surround me with songs of rescue”
  5. Psalm 126 “The Lord has done great things for us”

Sample includes Eating Together and Studying the Bible Together activities from session one, You Are My Refuge.
