Intergenerational Ministry Cohorts
Thoughts from participants
"Participating in GenOnâs Cohort made me much more aware of the importance of incorporating various age groups in all areas of worship, outreach, and activities. I was challenged to come up with new ways to do this. Meeting people from different parts of the country and denominations and hearing their ideas was an added plus."
Lay leader, Mt. Olive United Methodist, Mechanicsburg, PA
"Being part of a GenOn's Cohort gives your church a supported process to figure out the best steps forward for your context and encourages you to take those steps. There is no pre-determined answer or action â itâs a process for your church to go from âthinking aboutâ intergenerational ministry to âbrainstorming ideasâ to actually âactioning somethingâ in your context."
Melissa Neumann, Intergenerational Discipleship Developer, Uniting Church Synod of South Australia
Our Intergenerational Ministry Cohorts are for denominational and judicatory organizations to partner with GenOn in support of intergenerational ministry development in churches. By design, each participating church forms a team of 3 or more leaders to create a cohort of churches who work collaboratively online over a period of 6 months with GenOn staff.
Assisted by a GenOn Guide, each church team designs their own path to further develop intergenerational gatherings in a chosen ministry area â Worship, Study, Service or Fellowship. Itâs a more comprehensive approach that includes church team assignments and covers the Six-Step Path to becoming more intentionally intergenerational â Discover, Evaluate, Learn, Pilot, Launch, and Sustain. This training also includes 2 individual church team meetings with a GenOn Guide, scheduled as needed throughout the process.
Four, 2-hour sessions (includes assignments for church teams to complete independently):Â
- Session 1: Discover â How does research inform intergenerational ministry?
- Session 2: Evaluate â Where is your church now?
- Session 3: Learn â Best practices, resources, new ideas
- Session 4: Pilot, Launch, Sustain â An action plan for intentional intergenerational gatherings
- Bonus: 2 individual church team meetings with a GenOn Guide, as needed
Cohort cost:Â $395 per church, for a church team of 3 or more leaders to join a cohort made up of 3-5 churches
