Threads Within: The Gift of Creativity: Why Making, Imagining, and Noticing Matter
Oct 13, 2026
Let go of the need to get it "right."
Creativity Is already part of your life
As an image-bearer of the Creator, you are a creative child of God—no matter how old you are! To be creative is to imagine new ideas or ways of doing things. As a parent, grandparent, or anyone who cares for children, that’s exactly what you do each day. Whether you’re talking a toddler through a transition; turning "it’s time to tidy up" into a game; helping a child solve a problem by reframing it; or making a meal out of leftovers, you are tapping into your creativity.
You were created to create. And guess what? The God who designed you to be creative doesn’t expect perfection from you in your art, your care for children, or any other part of your life. (Phew!) God delights in your creativity. After all, God designed you that way.
Two ways to tap into your creativity
- Reflect and connect. What creative experiences spark joy in you? What creative practices connect you with God? If you didn’t worry about getting it "right," what would you like to try or make just for fun? Connect with the Creator as you create.
- Follow a child’s lead. Watch the children in your care build, pretend, draw, sing, and imagine their own worlds. Then join in. Ask questions. Get messy. Be curious. See where it takes you.
Creativity can become a way of paying attention
Prayer can look like this: watching trees dance in the wind, noticing a bird in flight, gazing at the stars and whispering, “Wow.”
To behold creation is to honor the Creator. This week, pause. Notice. Breathe. That’s enough.
Share the gift of creativity
If this reflection encouraged you, share it with a parent, grandparent, or anyone who cares for children—and invite them to notice, imagine, and create alongside the children in their lives.
