Intergenerational?
Posted by Liz Perraud at
We’re often asked to explain why LOGOS is an intergenerational gathering. Does it mean that there are classes and choirs for the adults as well as the children and youth? Our answer is that it could mean that! But more importantly it means that the adults are involved more on the giving and mentoring end rather than the receiving and learning end. And of course, the more we give and mentor, the more we receive and learn! LOGOS is primarily a ministry to benefit the young people in the church and requires the participation of many adults to teach, lead,...
Who is My Neighbor?
Posted by Suzie Lane at
Suzanne Hall Stout, First Christian Church, Des Moines, Iowa Giving ourselves to others is a vital part of living out our Christian faith. At First Christian Church we strive to be the hands and feet and heart of Jesus with our neighbors -- both near and far. Our GenOn LOGOS ministry (grades K-12) puts this understanding into action. Every semester for the last 13 years, our LOGOS children and youth have sponsored at least one service project for the entire congregation. Some projects are part of congregational ministries, others are part of our local community's ministries, and some have...

White clapboard houses and red barns were everywhere--not that we noticed except on the trip to and from the Hartford airport. We were more focused on soaking up the conversation from the 100 folks interested in and passionate about intergenerational faith formation. The leaves may have been turning outside but we were turning to one another inside to listen, learn, process, brainstorm, and vision about the impact on the church of intentionally bringing generations together. Long time lifelong faith pioneer John Roberto (of Lifelong Faith Associates) brought together a crackerjack Resource Team (Jim Merhaut, Holly Allen, and Kathie Amidei)...
GenOn Youth Summit Experience
Posted by Liz Perraud at
One church's experience with the recent GenOn Youth Summit: Heading home from the GenOn Youth Summit on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, I asked the youth what they liked about the week: "The music" "Meeting new people from different churches" "Spending time with other teenagers" "Music, singing, the dance" "Men's Vespers" "3 hour worship Friday night" "Mission day" "The talent show" "Women's Vespers" "Activities each day (soccer especially)" "Great to see old friends from last year and to meet new friends" "It was fun" "It was good" Not one said "I don't know"...
