Happy Birthday Miss Barb!

Posted by Liz Perraud at

Happy birthday to the best LOGOS head cook I know--Barb Schmehl. Barb turns 82 years old today and she’s been cooking for the children, youth and adults of LOGOS at Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Maryland for over 15 years. What makes her the “best” cook is not so much the food that she gets on the tables (though that is good), it’s more about the love that she gets on the tables. She adores those kids (“her” kids she calls them) and can’t wait for LOGOS to start each fall and is sad when it ends each spring....

Are you growing or shrinking?

Immersed in three days of learning is always a treat (something I didn't appreciate as much years ago). Those of you who attend conferences know the learning doesn't just happen in the workshop or at the plenary session (though certainly there!). Attending the e-Formation Conference at Virginia Theological Seminary alone meant I ate with strangers for the most part and yet was struck by fascinating conversation and connections (and learning!) over every single meal--and walks across the seminary campus to and from the meals. I bumped into a few people I know (check out Rev. Casey Wait FitzGerald's biblical storytelling blog...

It was my pleasure to visit State College Presbyterian Church (State College, Pennsylvania) on the occasion of their celebration of 25 years of LOGOS ministry. What I saw, learned or experienced included: Elementary students enthusiastically leading in worship and an enthusiastic congregation supporting such leadership. I loved the adult helper in the choir loft with the little sailor hat perched on his head to match the children in the musical. A pastor and music director with LOGOS experience in previous churches who were drawn to this church at least partially because of LOGOS. Lots of adults eager to share with...

Easter Morning with 20-something Sons

Our three sons were “drugged” to church…you know, dragged there sometimes and made to go. As 20 somethings now we don’t see them there very often for a variety of reasons (some good, some not so good) but they were all with us for Easter Sunday worship. The youngest mentioned that the church had new hymnals. What? He noticed that they were purple and no longer blue? And then he sat innocently between us as his brothers (who sat in the pew behind us with our daughter-in-law and impending daughter-in-law) did everything but tack a “kick me” sign to his...

“LOGOS is the best thing I’ve ever seen!” said the 70ish man giving me a ride to the Milwaukee airport Thursday afternoon. I had spent about 24 hours with the people of Sun Prairie United Methodist Church (Sun Prairie, WI) to attend their LOGOS End of Year Celebration and to help recognize the 17 years that Deb Mulhern has invested as director of their ministry. Deb told the 200+ people of all ages gathered in the sanctuary that she started LOGOS because she wanted it for her three sons. And now that time is done and she is stepping into...
