Creative and Fun Summer Sunday School Ideas

Posted by Suzie Lane at

Yes, Lent is starting this week. That means it’s time to think about SUMMER, the perfect time to try new and fun ways to bring people together to grow in faith, like intergenerational faith formation. GenOn Ministries has been teaching churches how to do intergenerational ministry for years (here’s a link for information about our training). And, in addition to our training, we have excellent resources for doing intergenerational Bible study. One of our favorites is All God’s Children: The Church Family Gathers. And, in that series, we offer 2 units that work well in the summer:

All God’s Children: The Church Family Gathers for Summer includes 5 sessions that can be combined for 5 weeks of gatherings, or used separately for a few gatherings over the summer months. Sessions are designed to be 60-120 minutes and include a meal (or snack), activity, Bible study and worship. This resource is fully downloadable and is perfect for all ages. Sample session is available.

All God’s Children: The Church Family Gathers for a Very Blessed Summer has all the fun of traditional Vacation Bible School, but in an intergenerational setting. All ages eat together, play together, study God’s Word together, pray, sing and worship together. Typical Vacation Bible School programs are designed for 2.5 – 3 hours, which would be sufficient for each of the 5 sessions of “All God’s Children: The Church Family Gathers for a Very Blessed Summer.” Complete details are included. Fully downloadable. Sample session is available.
